Original German photograph from the Second World War showing resistance-related wall inscriptions in The Hague, the Netherlands.
Several anti-German and pro-Orange inscriptions have been painted in white on the brick wall.
Clearly visible is the Dutch inscription ‘LEVE KONINGIN WILHELMINA’, meaning ‘Long Live Queen Wilhelmina’, together with several additional markings and inscriptions.
The inscription refers to Queen Wilhelmina, who during the German occupation remained in London and became an important symbol for the occupied Netherlands and the Dutch resistance.
Such pro-Orange slogans were painted on walls and other public places during the occupation as expressions of resistance against the German occupiers and support for the Dutch royal family.
The reverse is dated 31 August 1941, Queen Wilhelmina’s birthday, directly connecting the photographed inscriptions with this date.
The reverse also bears the photographer’s stamp ‘Talens – Delft’.
The photograph measures approximately 6 x 6 cm.

Op de bakstenen muur zijn met witte verf verschillende anti-Duitse en Oranjegezinde opschriften aangebracht.
Duidelijk zichtbaar zijn onder andere de teksten ‘LEVE KONINGIN WILHELMINA’ en verschillende aanvullende tekens en opschriften.
De tekst verwijst naar koningin Wilhelmina, die tijdens de Duitse bezetting vanuit Londen een belangrijk symbool vormde voor het bezette Nederland en het verzet.
Dergelijke Oranjegezinde leuzen werden tijdens de bezetting op muren en andere openbare plaatsen aangebracht als uiting van verzet tegen de Duitse bezetter en steun aan het Nederlandse koningshuis.
Op de achterzijde staat de datum 31 augustus 1941, de verjaardag van koningin Wilhelmina, waardoor de gefotografeerde opschriften rechtstreeks met deze datum in verband kunnen worden gebracht.
De achterzijde draagt tevens het fotostempel ‘Talens – Delft’.
De foto heeft een formaat van circa 6 x 6 cm.
Een bijzonder origineel fotografisch tijdsdocument van verzetsuitingen in het straatbeeld van Den Haag tijdens de Duitse bezetting.
