Original WWII German Photo Dutch Resistance Queen Wilhelmina Crown Graffiti The Hague 1941

Original German photograph from the Second World War showing a resistance-related wall marking in The Hague, the Netherlands.
A large crown has been painted on the brick wall with the letter ‘W’ underneath, a clear reference to Queen Wilhelmina and the Dutch Royal Family.
Such pro-Orange symbols and inscriptions were used during the German occupation as expressions of resistance and support for Queen Wilhelmina.
The crown and letter ‘W’ together form a striking example of symbolic resistance visible in the Dutch streets during the occupation.
The reverse is handwritten ’20 Juli 41′, dating the photograph to 20 July 1941.
The reverse also bears the photographer’s stamp ‘Talens-Foto Delft-Den Haag’.
The photograph measures approximately 6 x 6 cm.

Originele Duitse foto uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog van een verzetsgezind muuropschrift in Den Haag

Op de bakstenen gevel is een grote kroon aangebracht met daaronder de letter ‘W’, een duidelijke verwijzing naar koningin Wilhelmina en het Nederlandse koningshuis.
Dergelijke Oranjegezinde tekens en opschriften werden tijdens de Duitse bezetting aangebracht als uiting van verzet en steun aan koningin Wilhelmina.
De kroon en de letter ‘W’ vormen samen een opvallend voorbeeld van symbolisch verzet in het Nederlandse straatbeeld tijdens de bezettingsjaren.
Op de achterzijde staat handgeschreven ’20 Juli 41′, waarmee de foto wordt gedateerd op 20 juli 1941.
De achterzijde draagt tevens het fotostempel ‘Talens-Foto Delft-Den Haag’.
De foto heeft een formaat van circa 6 x 6 cm.
Een bijzondere originele foto voor verzamelaars van Nederlandse verzetsgeschiedenis, de Duitse bezetting en fotografisch materiaal uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
