Original WW1 German Imperial Army Photo Album 1914-1919

Original German photo album containing an extensive collection of military photographs dating from the First World War and the period 1914-1919.
The album provides a detailed personal photographic record of German soldiers during and immediately after World War I.
The photographs include individual portraits as well as large group photographs of German soldiers and numerous scenes from everyday military life.
Several photographs show soldiers wearing typical Imperial German uniforms, field caps and Pickelhaube helmets.

Further photographs are placed beneath the year 1918 and include groups of soldiers photographed in wooded surroundings.
The album continues into 1919 and therefore also documents the immediate post-First World War period.
A particularly interesting photograph dated 1919 shows a large group of German soldiers gathered around a heavy artillery piece mounted on or associated with railway equipment.
The building in the background prominently displays the sign ‘Gasthof zum Bahnhof’.
The combination of German soldiers, railway equipment and heavy artillery makes this one of the most striking photographs contained in the album.
Alongside the military subjects, the album contains personal photographs showing soldiers during periods of rest and in social surroundings.
The collection therefore provides an interesting photographic record not only of Imperial German uniforms and equipment but also of the everyday lives of the soldiers.
Several photographs contain original handwritten inscriptions, dates or other contemporary annotations.
The photographs remain in varying used condition with traces of use clearly visible in the pictures.

Origineel Duits fotoalbum uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog met een omvangrijke verzameling militaire foto’s uit de periode 1914-1919

Het album geeft een uitgebreid persoonlijk beeld van Duitse militairen tijdens en rond de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
De foto’s tonen zowel individuele portretten als grote groepsfoto’s van Duitse soldaten en verschillende momenten uit het dagelijkse militaire leven.
Op meerdere foto’s zijn militairen zichtbaar in typische keizerlijk Duitse uniformen met veldmutsen en Pickelhauben.
Bijzonder interessant zijn de opnamen waarop militairen met Pickelhauben en Seitengewehre poseren.
Andere foto’s tonen gewapende militairen met geweren en volledige militaire uitrusting.
Ook zijn er groepsopnamen van militairen met onder andere hospitaalpersoneel en verpleegsters.
Verschillende foto’s tonen soldaten te paard en geven daarmee ook een beeld van het gebruik van paarden binnen het Duitse leger.
Daarnaast bevat het album foto’s van kazernes, militaire verblijven, ontspanningsmomenten en grote groepen militairen.
Een opvallende opname toont drie militairen samen met een paard op een binnenplaats bij een militair gebouwencomplex.

In het album bevinden zich tevens verschillende grote groepsfoto’s waarop tientallen militairen gezamenlijk zijn afgebeeld.
Een van de foto’s is duidelijk gedateerd 1917 en toont een grote groep Duitse militairen voor een houten gebouw.
Andere foto’s zijn onder het jaartal 1918 geplaatst en tonen onder meer militairen in een bosrijke omgeving.
Het album loopt door tot 1919 en bevat daarmee eveneens foto’s uit de periode direct na het einde van de Eerste Wereldoorlog.
Een bijzonder interessante foto uit 1919 toont een grote groep Duitse militairen rond zwaar geschut op een spoorwagon of spoorgebonden affuit.
Op de achtergrond is duidelijk het opschrift ‘Gasthof zum Bahnhof’ zichtbaar.
Deze opname vormt door de combinatie van militairen, spoorwegmaterieel en zwaar geschut een van de opvallendste foto’s uit het album.
Naast de puur militaire onderwerpen bevat het album ook persoonlijke foto’s van soldaten tijdens rustmomenten en in gezelschap.
Hierdoor geeft het geheel niet alleen een beeld van uniformen en uitrusting, maar ook van het dagelijkse leven van Duitse militairen gedurende deze periode.
Enkele foto’s zijn voorzien van handgeschreven teksten, jaartallen of andere oorspronkelijke aantekeningen.
De foto’s verkeren in uiteenlopende gebruikte conditie met gebruikssporen die duidelijk op de foto’s zichtbaar zijn.
