Original WWII German Propaganda Leaflet for Dutch Soldiers – Invasion of the Netherlands May 1940

Original German propaganda leaflet from May 1940, distributed during the German invasion of the Netherlands.
The leaflet is printed entirely in Dutch and prominently opens with the words ‘NEDERLANDERS! SOLDATEN!’ and ‘Uw bevrijding is gekomen!’, meaning ‘Dutchmen! Soldiers!’ and ‘Your liberation has come!’.
The text was addressed directly to Dutch soldiers and urged them to end their resistance against the invading German forces.
It accuses the Dutch leadership of having sold and betrayed the country to England and France while presenting the German invasion as a supposed ‘liberation’.
A prominent line states ‘Wij Duitschers zijn degenen, die u nog kunnen bevrijden’, claiming that the Germans were the ones who could still ‘liberate’ the Dutch.
At the bottom, Dutch soldiers are urged to stop fighting the Germans and join what the leaflet describes as their ‘just cause’.
Such leaflets formed part of German psychological warfare during the attack on the Netherlands in May 1940 and were intended to undermine the morale and resistance of Dutch troops.
The leaflet is an interesting example of propaganda directly connected with the German invasion and fighting in the Netherlands during the May 1940 campaign.
The example remains in heavily used condition and has been reinforced and restored on the reverse with multiple strips of paper and adhesive.

Origineel WWII Duits propagandapamflet uit mei 1940, verspreid tijdens de Duitse invasie van Nederland

Het pamflet is volledig Nederlandstalig en opent met de opvallende tekst ‘NEDERLANDERS! SOLDATEN!’ en ‘Uw bevrijding is gekomen!’.
De tekst was rechtstreeks gericht aan Nederlandse militairen en riep hen op hun strijd tegen de Duitse troepen te beëindigen.
Het pamflet beschuldigt de Nederlandse leiders ervan het land te hebben verkocht en verraden aan Engeland en Frankrijk en presenteert de Duitse inval als een zogenaamde ‘bevrijding’.
Centraal staat de propagandistische boodschap ‘Wij Duitschers zijn degenen, die u nog kunnen bevrijden’.
Onderaan worden Nederlandse soldaten opgeroepen niet langer tegen de Duitsers te strijden en zich bij hun ‘rechtvaardige zaak’ aan te sluiten.
