Rare original American First World War propaganda leaflet entitled ‘A Message From the Skies’.
The leaflet contains a message by Major General John A. Lejeune, commanding officer of the American 2nd Division of the American Expeditionary Forces.
In the text, Lejeune looks back on the heavy fighting of 1918 and particularly the important role played by the 2nd Division during the battles around Château-Thierry and Belleau Wood.
The message describes how the division was deployed north of the Marne on June 1, 1918 and subsequently helped stop the German advance.
It also specifically mentions the capture of Hill 142, Bouresches and the southern part of Bois de Belleau.
The text emphasizes how these American successes strengthened Allied morale and contributed to turning back the German offensives.
Lejeune also refers to the ‘Immortal Second Division’ and pays tribute to both the living and fallen soldiers of the division.
At the bottom is the historic insignia of the US 2nd Division featuring the distinctive Indianhead within a five-pointed star.

Zeldzaam origineel Amerikaans propagandastrooibiljet uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog met de titel ‘A Message From the Skies’

Het strooibiljet bevat een boodschap van Major General John A. Lejeune, commandant van de Amerikaanse 2nd Division van de American Expeditionary Forces.
In de tekst blikt Lejeune terug op de zware gevechten van 1918 en in het bijzonder op de belangrijke rol van de 2nd Division tijdens de strijd rond Château-Thierry en Belleau Wood.
Beschreven wordt hoe de divisie op 1 juni 1918 ten noorden van de Marne werd ingezet en vervolgens de Duitse opmars hielp stoppen.
Ook worden de verovering van Hill 142, Bouresches en het zuidelijke gedeelte van Bois de Belleau genoemd.
