Original WWII German Kriegsmarine Leica camera by Ernst Leitz Wetzlar

This German Kriegsmarine Leica camera by Ernst Leitz Wetzlar is a rare and historically valuable photographic device from the 1940s, complete with its leather protective case.
The camera bears the characteristic Kriegsmarine markings of the period and is fitted with a Leitz Hektor 5cm f/2.5 lens, a popular choice among war photographers due to its durability and optical quality.
This type of Leica was used by Kriegsberichter, the military correspondents who documented the course of the war, giving each example a unique history.
We have not tested the camera, and its working condition is unknown.
The leather case with carrying strap is also still present, and a name is written on the inside.
The flap of the leather case is partially torn but still somewhat attached to the other part.
Despite visible signs of age, the set remains in remarkably original condition.
The vast majority of Leica cameras produced during the war had no Wehrmacht property markings and were also used for civilian purposes.
From 1942 onward, Leica produced exclusively for the Wehrmacht.
Due to material shortages, later models were no longer chrome-plated but painted gray.
The cameras for the Kriegsmarine were purchased directly from the Leitz company, and the engraving of the Kriegsmarine eagle above the “M” was applied during production.

Originele WWII Duitse Kriegsmarine Leica Ernst Leitz Wetzlar fotocamera

Deze Duitse Kriegsmarine Leica-camera van Ernst Leitz Wetzlar is een zeldzaam en historisch waardevol fototoestel uit de jaren 40, compleet met zijn lederen beschermhoes. De camera draagt de karakteristieke Kriegsmarine markeringen uit de periode en is uitgerust met een Leitz Hektor 5cm f/2.5-objectief, een geliefde lens onder oorlogsfotografen vanwege zijn degelijkheid en optische kwaliteit.
Dit type Leica werd gebruikt door Kriegsberichter, de militaire verslaggevers die het verloop van de oorlog documenteerden, waardoor elk exemplaar een uniek verleden met zich meedraagt. Wij hebben de camera niet getest en het is onbekend of deze nog werkt. De leren hoes met draagriem is ook nog aanwezig en ook een naam is erin geschreven aan de binnenzijde. De klep van de leren hoes is deels gescheurd maar nog enigszins bevestigd aan het andere deel. Ondanks zichtbare ouderdomssporen verkeert het geheel in opmerkelijk originele staat. De overgrote meerderheid van alle Leica-camera’s die tijdens de oorlog werden geproduceerd, hadden geen eigendomsmarkering van de Wehrmacht en werden ook voor civiele doeleinden gebruikt. Vanaf 1942 produceerde Leica uitsluitend voor de Wehrmacht. Vanwege het materiaaltekort werden de latere modellen niet meer verchroomd, maar grijs gelakt. De camera’s voor de Kriegsmarine werden rechtstreeks bij de firma Leitz gekocht en de gravure van de Kriegsmarine-adelaar boven de “M” werd al tijdens de productie aangebracht.
