Original WWII Dutch Schalkhaar Politie helmet

This Dutch helmet is in good condition and was worn by the Schalkhaar Police during World War II.
The black helmet features the helmet plate with lion on the front and two helmet plates on each side, one of which is a prince’s flag and the other a grenade.
A rare helmet for the Dutch collaboration or police collection!

Schalkhaar politie

The Schalkhaar Police refers to a special police training program established during World War II by the German occupiers in the village of Schalkhaar, near Deventer. In 1941, the Police Training Battalion (P.O.B.) was set up in the Westenberg Barracks, where Dutch police officers were trained under SS supervision. The focus was heavily placed on physical training, discipline, and Nazi ideological indoctrination, rather than on standard police duties.
The trainees soon became known as “Schalkhaarders,” a term that gained a negative connotation during and after the war.
Many of them participated in the deportation of Jews, repression of the resistance, and other forms of collaboration with the German occupiers.
The name “Schalkhaar Police” remains a symbol of collaboration within the Dutch police during the occupation—a painful but important chapter in Dutch history.

Originele WWII Nederlandse Schalkhaar Politie helm 

Deze Nederlandse helm is in goede conditie en werd gedragen door de Schalkhaar Politie tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
De zwarte helm is voorzien van de helmplaat met leeuw aan de voorzijde en twee helmplaatjes aan beide zijden, waarvan een een prinsenvlag en de andere een granaatje.

Schalkhaar Politie 

De Schalkhaar Politie was een speciale politieopleiding die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd opgezet door de Duitse bezetter in het dorp Schalkhaar, bij Deventer. In de Westenbergkazerne werd in 1941 het Politie Opleidings Bataljon (P.O.B.) gevestigd. Hier werden Nederlandse agenten opgeleid onder toezicht van de SS, met een sterke nadruk op fysieke training, discipline en nationaalsocialistische indoctrinatie, in plaats van op gewone politietaken.
De cursisten werden al snel bekend als “Schalkhaarders”, een term die tijdens en na de oorlog een negatieve bijklank kreeg. Velen van hen werkten mee aan deportaties van Joden, repressie van het verzet en andere vormen van collaboratie met de Duitse bezetter.
De term “Schalkhaar Politie” is sindsdien blijven bestaan als symbool voor collaboratie binnen de politie tijdens de bezettingsjaren – een pijnlijk, maar belangrijk hoofdstuk in de Nederlandse geschiedenis.
