Original WWII Dutch Rotterdam 1940 Souvenir Handkerchief with Flags

Original Dutch handkerchief from 1940 with a clear connection to the Netherlands and Rotterdam during the Second World War.
The handkerchief is made from a light, finely woven fabric and finished around the edge with an orange scalloped border.
The centre features the hand-applied inscription ‘Nederland Mei 10 1940’, referring to 10 May 1940, the day the German invasion of the Netherlands began.
Beside the inscription are two crossed flags, including the Dutch red, white and blue flag and a green and white flag.
The handkerchief is further decorated with colourful floral motifs and a flying swallow.

Originele Nederlandse zakdoek uit 1940 met een duidelijke verwijzing naar Nederland en Rotterdam tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog

De zakdoek is vervaardigd van een lichte, fijn geweven stof en rondom afgewerkt met een geschulpte oranje rand.
Centraal is met de hand de tekst ‘Nederland Mei 10 1940’ aangebracht, waarmee wordt verwezen naar 10 mei 1940, de dag waarop de Duitse inval in Nederland begon.
Naast de tekst zijn twee gekruiste vlaggen aangebracht, waaronder de Nederlandse rood-wit-blauwe vlag en een groen-witte vlag.
Verder is de zakdoek versierd met kleurrijke bloemmotieven en een vliegende zwaluw.
