This historical KNIL publication covers the life and military career of General H.N.A. Swart within the Dutch East Indies and the Aceh wars on Sumatra.
The book contains extensive information about military operations in Atjeh, Pedir, Borneo, Sigli, Koeta Radja, Meulaboh, Tamiang and Langsa during the Dutch colonial period in the Dutch East Indies.
It also includes numerous original photographs of KNIL officers, military expeditions, landscapes, marechaussee units and colonial administrators.
The title page mentions former KNIL colonel M.H. du Croo, H.J. Schmidt and lieutenant-general G.K. Dijkstra.
The foreword is dated The Hague, March 15th 1943 during the Second World War.
