Original Polish Silver Cross of Merit Krzyż Zasługi Medal

Original Polish Silver Cross of Merit, known in Polish as the ‘Srebrny Krzyż Zasługi’.
The Cross of Merit was instituted in 1923 by the Republic of Poland for individuals who rendered distinguished service to the Polish state and society.
The decoration was issued in three classes, Gold, Silver and Bronze, with this example being the Silver variant.
The cross features red enamel with a silver-coloured border and rays between the arms.
The centre features a circular medallion bearing the letters ‘RP’, an abbreviation for ‘Rzeczpospolita Polska’.
The Silver Cross of Merit is suspended from its distinctive red ribbon with narrow white vertical stripes along both sides.
The reverse of the cross has a plain finish.
The example shows traces of wear and use as visible in the photographs.

Origineel Pools Zilveren Kruis van Verdienste, in het Pools bekend als het ‘Srebrny Krzyż Zasługi’

Het Kruis van Verdienste werd in 1923 ingesteld door de Republiek Polen voor personen die bijzondere verdiensten hadden geleverd voor de Poolse staat en samenleving.
De onderscheiding kende drie klassen, goud, zilver en brons, waarbij dit exemplaar de zilveren variant betreft.
Het kruis is uitgevoerd met rood emaille, een zilverkleurige omlijsting en stralen tussen de armen.
Centraal bevindt zich een rond medaillon met de letters ‘RP’, de afkorting van ‘Rzeczpospolita Polska’.
Het Zilveren Kruis van Verdienste hangt aan het kenmerkende rode draaglint met smalle witte verticale strepen langs beide zijden.
De achterzijde van het kruis is glad uitgevoerd.
Het exemplaar vertoont gebruiks- en draagsporen zoals zichtbaar op de foto’s.
