Original 1948 Dutch East Indies KNIL New Year’s Greetings Radio Recording Disc – Presto USA

Original Dutch recording disc from 1948 with a remarkable connection between the Netherlands and soldiers of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army, the KNIL, in the Dutch East Indies.
The handwritten label reads ‘Nieuwjaarswenschen familieleden van KNIL-militairen uit Nederland naar Ned. Indië 1948’.
The recording therefore contains New Year’s greetings from family members in the Netherlands intended for Dutch military personnel stationed in the Dutch East Indies.
Such spoken messages provided a personal connection between servicemen stationed overseas and their families in the Netherlands.
The other side of the disc is marked with the ‘PRESTO’ trademark, ‘Made in U.S.A.’ and the number 1782.
This is a professional direct-cut recording disc on which the audio was recorded directly into the surface.
Of particular interest is the handwritten ‘1948’ date and the surviving original handwritten identification label describing the contents of the recording.
The disc comes with its accompanying old paper sleeve.
An unusual historical sound document directly connected with the KNIL, the Dutch East Indies and communication between Dutch servicemen overseas and their families in the Netherlands.

Originele Nederlandse opnameplaat uit 1948 met een bijzondere verbinding tussen Nederland en militairen van het KNIL in Nederlands-Indië

Op het handgeschreven etiket staat ‘Nieuwjaarswenschen familieleden van KNIL-militairen uit Nederland naar Ned. Indië 1948’.
De plaat bevat daarmee nieuwjaarswensen van familieleden in Nederland die bestemd waren voor Nederlandse militairen in Nederlands-Indië.
Dergelijke gesproken boodschappen vormden een persoonlijke verbinding tussen militairen die overzee waren gestationeerd en hun familieleden in Nederland.
Op de andere zijde is de plaat gemarkeerd met het merk ‘PRESTO’, ‘Made in U.S.A.’ en het nummer 1782.
Het betreft een professionele direct-cut opnameplaat waarop het geluid rechtstreeks in de plaat werd gesneden.
Bijzonder is dat de originele opname met de hand is gedateerd ‘1948’ en het oorspronkelijke handgeschreven identificatie-etiket bewaard is gebleven.
De plaat wordt geleverd in de bijbehorende oude papieren hoes.
Een bijzonder historisch geluidsdocument met een directe relatie tot het KNIL, Nederlands-Indië en de communicatie tussen Nederlandse militairen overzee en hun familieleden in Nederland.
