Original 1945-1949 Dutch East Indies 5-5 R.I. Radio Recording ‘Impressie’ 78 RPM Disc

Original Dutch military gramophone recording from the 1945-1949 period, originating from the Dutch East Indies and associated with 5-5 R.I., the 5th Battalion of the 5th Infantry Regiment.
The disc remains together with its original paper radio sleeve, which is marked with the category ‘Impressie 5-5 R.I.’.
According to the information on the sleeve, the recording was spoken by Reserve Lieutenant M. Friele, with musical accompaniment by Lieutenant Nikkel and technical supervision by Mr. Teding van Berkhout.
The sleeve also states that the recording was cut at the radio studio in Semarang, Java.
Several handwritten markings are present on the central area of the disc, including ‘BELGIUM’ and the number ‘5’.
This is a direct-cut recording disc, a type of record used to capture radio broadcasts, spoken messages and other audio recordings directly onto a disc.
The original annotated radio sleeve has remained with the record and, together with the names and location mentioned on it, forms an interesting historical ensemble.
Both the disc and sleeve show clear traces of use, with scratches visible on the surface of the record.

De plaat bevindt zich nog in de bijbehorende originele papieren radiohoes waarop als rubriek ‘Impressie 5-5 R.I.’ staat vermeld.
Volgens de gegevens op de hoes werd de opname uitgesproken door Res.Lt. M. Friele, met muzikale omlijsting door Lt. Nikkel en technische leiding door de heer Teding van Berkhout.
Op de hoes staat tevens vermeld dat de opname werd gesneden op de radiostudio te Semarang op Java.
Op het centrale gedeelte van de plaat zijn verschillende handgeschreven aanduidingen aanwezig, waaronder ‘BELGIUM’ en het nummer ‘5’.
Het betreft een direct gesneden opnameplaat, een type plaat waarmee radio-uitzendingen, gesproken berichten en andere geluidsopnamen rechtstreeks konden worden vastgelegd.
