Original WWII Romanian Crusade Against Communism Medal 1941 – Cruciada Împotriva Comunismului

Original Romanian ‘Cruciada Împotriva Comunismului’ commemorative medal from the Second World War.
The decoration was instituted on 1 April 1942 by Royal Decree No. 1014 of King Michael I of Romania and was connected with Romania’s participation in the war against the Soviet Union.
The medal could be awarded to Romanian military personnel and civilians as well as members of allied armed forces who participated in the campaign.
The obverse depicts a hand holding an upright sword against a cross, together with the year ‘1941’ and the inscription ‘Cruciada Împotriva Comunismului’.
The reverse depicts a female profile personifying Romania surrounded by the inscription ‘România Recunoscătoare’, meaning ‘Grateful Romania’.
Below the portrait is the signature ‘P. Grant’, identifying the designer and engraver of the medal.
The example retains the original type red ribbon with the Romanian national colours of blue, yellow and red running through the centre and silver-coloured stripes near the edges.

Originele Roemeense herinneringsmedaille ‘Cruciada Împotriva Comunismului’ uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog

De onderscheiding werd op 1 april 1942 bij Koninklijk Decreet nr. 1014 ingesteld door koning Michaël I van Roemenië en hield verband met de Roemeense deelname aan de oorlog tegen de Sovjet-Unie.
De medaille kon worden toegekend aan Roemeense militairen en burgers en tevens aan militairen van met Roemenië verbonden legers die aan deze strijd deelnamen.
Op de voorzijde is een hand afgebeeld die een omhoog gericht zwaard vasthoudt tegen een kruis, met het jaartal ‘1941’ en rondom de tekst ‘Cruciada Împotriva Comunismului’.
De keerzijde toont een vrouwenprofiel als personificatie van Roemenië met de tekst ‘România Recunoscătoare’, oftewel ‘Dankbaar Roemenië’.
Onder het vrouwenportret bevindt zich de signatuur ‘P. Grant’ van de ontwerper en graveur van de medaille.
Het exemplaar is voorzien van het originele type rode lint met in het midden de Roemeense nationale kleuren blauw, geel en rood en langs de randen zilverkleurige strepen.
Een originele Roemeense militaire onderscheiding uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog met een directe relatie tot de strijd aan het Oostfront.
