Original WW1 German 2-Medal Bar – Iron Cross 2nd Class 1914 & Hindenburg Cross

Original German 2-medal bar consisting of two military decorations connected to the First World War and interwar period.
The medal combination consists of the Prussian Iron Cross 2nd Class 1914 and the Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges 1914/1918 für Frontkämpfer, commonly known as the Hindenburg Cross.
The obverse of the Iron Cross displays the Prussian crown, the letter ‘W’ for Wilhelm II and the date ‘1914’.
The reverse features the crown with ‘FW’, oak leaves and the date ‘1813’, referring to the original institution of the Iron Cross.
The Hindenburg Cross features crossed swords, identifying it as the version awarded to former frontline combatants.
Its obverse displays the dates ‘1914 1918’ within a laurel wreath.
The reverse of the Hindenburg Cross is maker marked ‘7 R.V. PFORZHEIM’.
Both decorations are mounted on their corresponding ribbons and arranged together as a traditional German 2-medal bar.
The reverse is fitted with a long metal pin allowing the medal bar to be worn on the uniform.
The medals, ribbons and mounting show traces of use as visible in the photographs.
An interesting original medal combination for collectors of Imperial German militaria, First World War awards and Prussian military decorations.

Originele Duitse 2er Ordensspange bestaande uit twee militaire onderscheidingen uit de periode van de Eerste Wereldoorlog en het interbellum

De medaillecombinatie bestaat uit het Pruisische IJzeren Kruis 2e Klasse 1914 en het Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges 1914/1918 für Frontkämpfer, beter bekend als het Hindenburgkruis.
Het IJzeren Kruis toont op de voorzijde de Pruisische kroon, de letter ‘W’ voor Wilhelm II en het jaartal ‘1914’.
Op de achterzijde bevinden zich de kroon met ‘FW’, eikenloof en het jaartal ‘1813’, verwijzend naar de oorspronkelijke instelling van het IJzeren Kruis.
Het Hindenburgkruis is uitgevoerd met gekruiste zwaarden en betreft daarmee de uitvoering voor voormalige frontstrijders.
Op de voorzijde staan de jaartallen ‘1914 1918’ binnen een lauwerkrans.
De achterzijde van het Hindenburgkruis is gemarkeerd met ‘7 R.V. PFORZHEIM’.
Beide onderscheidingen zijn gemonteerd aan hun bijbehorende linten, die gezamenlijk als Duitse 2er Ordensspange zijn gevouwen.
Aan de achterzijde bevindt zich de lange metalen draagspeld waarmee de combinatie op het uniform kon worden gedragen.
De medailles, linten en draagconstructie vertonen gebruikssporen zoals zichtbaar op de foto’s.
Een interessante originele medaillecombinatie voor een verzameling Duitse Keizerrijk militaria, Eerste Wereldoorlog onderscheidingen en Pruisische militaire decoraties.
