Original WWII German Kriegsmarine group photograph showing personnel of the 14. Schiffsstammabteilung, the naval training unit stationed in Breda during the German occupation of the Netherlands.
The large group photograph shows approximately one hundred Kriegsmarine personnel in uniform, including enlisted men, NCOs and officers, assembled in front of a brick barracks building.
Placed centrally in front of the group is a specially made sign bearing the inscription ‘U-Heim 14 SStA’ together with an anchor, visibly connecting the photograph to the 14. Schiffsstammabteilung.
The 14. Schiffsstammabteilung was transferred to Breda in late September 1940 and was stationed there, including at the Chassé Barracks, where German sailors received their basic military training for the Kriegsmarine.
The photograph is preserved as a large print mounted on its original cardboard presentation mount and forms an interesting document of the German Kriegsmarine presence in the occupied Netherlands.

De grote groepsopname toont ongeveer honderd Kriegsmarine-militairen in uniform, waaronder manschappen, onderofficieren en officieren, opgesteld voor een bakstenen kazernegebouw.
Centraal voor de groep ligt een speciaal vervaardigd bord met het opschrift ‘U-Heim 14 SStA’ en een anker, waarmee de verbinding met de 14. Schiffsstammabteilung zichtbaar wordt gemaakt.
De 14. Schiffsstammabteilung werd eind september 1940 naar Breda overgebracht en was daar onder meer in de Chassékazerne gelegerd, waar Duitse matrozen hun militaire basisopleiding voor de Kriegsmarine ontvingen.
De foto is als grote afdruk gemonteerd op de oorspronkelijke kartonnen passe-partout en vormt een interessant document van de aanwezigheid van de Duitse Kriegsmarine in bezet Nederland.
