Original WWII Japanese Army Type 98 Light Ground Position-Finding Instrument – Tokyo Kogaku 1943

Original and rare WWII Japanese Type 98 Light Ground Position-Finding Instrument used by the Imperial Japanese Army.
This military precision instrument is known in Japanese as the ‘九八式軽地上標定機’ and was designed for accurately determining directions, angles and positions in the field.
Instruments of this type were used among others by artillery units for surveying, observation and position finding.
The instrument was manufactured by Tokyo Kogaku Kikai Kabushiki Kaisha, better known as Tokyo Kogaku or TOKO.
According to the original identification plate, this example dates from February 1943.
The optics provide 10x magnification with a 6-degree field of view.
The view through the optics remains clear and the original horizontal and vertical measuring reticle is clearly visible.
The instrument is numbered 32178, matching the serial number found on the original metal transport and accessory case.
The case retains various original accessories and components together with its Japanese inventory plate.
The set also includes the original wooden tripod with metal fittings.
Additionally included is the original canvas tripod carrying cover with its carrying straps, buckles and Japanese marking.
A rare and particularly complete example of Japanese WWII military precision optics that is seldom encountered on the collectors’ market in this configuration.

Originele en zeldzame WWII Japanse Type 98 lichte grondmeet- en positiebepalingsinstrument van het Keizerlijke Japanse Leger

Dit militaire precisie-instrument staat in het Japans bekend als de ‘九八式軽地上標定機’ en werd gebruikt voor het nauwkeurig bepalen van richtingen, hoeken en posities in het terrein.
Dergelijke instrumenten werden onder meer ingezet bij artillerie-eenheden voor terreinmeting, observatie en positiebepaling.
Het instrument is vervaardigd door Tokyo Kogaku Kikai Kabushiki Kaisha, beter bekend als Tokyo Kogaku of TOKO.
Volgens het originele typeplaatje dateert dit exemplaar uit februari 1943.
De optiek heeft een vergroting van 10x en een gezichtsveld van 6 graden.
Het zicht door de optiek is nog helder en de originele horizontale en verticale schaalverdeling is duidelijk zichtbaar.
Het instrument draagt serienummer 32178, hetzelfde nummer dat ook op de originele metalen transport- en toebehorenkist aanwezig is.
De kist bevat verschillende originele accessoires en onderdelen en is voorzien van de Japanse inventarisplaat.
Bij de set bevindt zich tevens het originele houten statief met metalen beslag.
Ook de originele canvas transporthoes voor het statief met draagriemen, gespen en Japanse markering is aanwezig.
Een zeldzame en bijzonder complete set Japanse militaire precisie-optiek uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog die slechts zelden in deze uitvoering op de verzamelaarsmarkt wordt aangeboden.
