The famous flag raising took place on February 23, 1945, during the fierce fighting for the Japanese island of Iwo Jima and became one of the most iconic images of the Pacific War.
The artwork is based on the world-famous scene of the second flag raising, captured by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal.
