Original 1949 Dutch KNIL ‘Orde en Vrede’ medal

This original Dutch “Orde en Vrede” medal dates from 1949 and belongs to the well known decorations from the period of the Indonesian War of Independence.
The medal was instituted to recognize Dutch military personnel who served in the Dutch East Indies between 1945 and 1950.
It was awarded to members of the Royal Netherlands Army, Royal Netherlands Navy and other units involved in the operations.
The Orde en Vrede medal symbolizes the participation of Dutch forces during the so called Police Actions and subsequent military operations in the Dutch East Indies.
This decoration represents an important historical artifact from the period of the decolonization of the Dutch East Indies.

Deze originele Nederlandse Orde en Vrede medaille dateert uit 1949 en behoort tot de bekende onderscheidingen uit de periode van de Indonesische onafhankelijkheidsstrijd.
De medaille werd ingesteld ter erkenning van militairen die hebben gediend tijdens de inzet van Nederlandse strijdkrachten in Nederlands-Indië tussen 1945 en 1950.
De onderscheiding werd toegekend aan militairen van de Koninklijke Landmacht, Koninklijke Marine en andere betrokken eenheden.
De Orde en Vrede medaille staat symbool voor de inzet van Nederlandse troepen tijdens de zogenoemde Politionele Acties en de daaropvolgende militaire operaties.
