Original WWII British RAF 1943 pattern ‘Escape’ flying boots

Original pair of RAF “Escape” pattern Flying Boots dated 1943, a characteristic model of flight boots as worn by Royal Air Force aircrew during the Second World War.

This type of boot was specifically designed for use at high altitude and in extreme cold conditions, with the distinctive feature that the upper section could be detached to improve mobility in the event of an emergency landing or escape.

The boots are made of black leather with a high shaft and are fully lined with warm wool throughout the interior. The shaft is fitted with a working A.B.C. zipper and an adjustable buckle strap at the top, while the lower section consists of a sturdy leather lace-up shoe with a reinforced toe cap.

Origineel paar RAF “Escape” pattern Flying Boots uit 1943, een karakteristiek model vliegerslaarzen zoals gedragen door bemanningsleden van de Royal Air Force tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Dit type laars werd speciaal ontworpen voor gebruik op grote hoogte en in extreme kou, met als bijzonder kenmerk dat het bovenste deel kon worden losgemaakt om bij een eventuele noodlanding of ontsnapping de bewegingsvrijheid te vergroten. De laarzen zijn vervaardigd uit zwart leer met hoge schacht en voorzien van een warme wollen voering over de volledige binnenzijde. De schacht is uitgerust met een werkende rits (A.B.C.-ritssluiting) en een verstelbare gespband aan de bovenzijde, terwijl het onderste deel bestaat uit een stevig leren veterschoenmodel met versterkte neus. Een zeldzaam en historisch interessant paar vliegerslaarzen van de Royal Air Force uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
