Original American Camera, Aircraft Type K-20 aerial reconnaissance camera dated 1943, complete with its matching wooden transport case stenciled “CAMERA, AIRCRAFT TYPE K-20 – HANDLE WITH CARE.”
This iconic model was used during the Second World War by USAAF crews for aerial reconnaissance, documentation, and operational photography from aircraft.
The camera is finished in black crinkle paint and features the characteristic pistol grip with operating mechanism, adjustment dial, and optical viewfinder with crosshair reticle. The lens is marked with a “Minus Blue” filter ring and shows clear military markings, including the 1943 date and serial numbers.
The interior of the original case retains its wooden compartment dividers and protective padding for the camera and film rolls. Film canisters are included.
The K-20 was renowned for its robust construction and reliability under operational conditions, seeing service in both the European and Pacific theatres. Due to intensive wartime use, complete sets with the original transport case have become increasingly scarce today.
A historically and technically significant collector’s piece, ideal for collectors of USAAF, aviation, and Second World War militaria, as well as enthusiasts of military photography and optical equipment.

Originele Amerikaanse Camera, Aircraft Type K-20 luchtfotocamera uit 1943, compleet met de bijbehorende houten transportkist met opschrift “CAMERA, AIRCRAFT TYPE K-20 – HANDLE WITH CARE”.
Dit iconische model werd tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog gebruikt door USAAF-bemanningen voor luchtverkenning, documentatie en operationele fotografie vanuit vliegtuigen.
De camera is uitgevoerd in zwart hamerslaglak en voorzien van een karakteristieke pistoolgreep met bedieningsmechanisme, instelschaal en optische zoeker met kruisdraad. Het objectief is gemarkeerd met “Minus Blue” filterring en vertoont duidelijke militaire markeringen, waaronder datering 1943 en serienummers. De binnenzijde van de originele kist beschikt nog over de houten vakverdeling en beschermende bekleding voor camera en filmrollen, inclusief filmcassettes.
De K-20 stond bekend om zijn robuuste constructie en betrouwbaarheid onder operationele omstandigheden en werd onder meer ingezet in Europa en de Pacific.
Door het intensieve gebruik en de vaak zware inzet zijn complete sets met originele kist tegenwoordig aanzienlijk schaarser geworden.
