De medaille werd ingevoerd op 9 juni 1945 en was bedoeld voor militair personeel die Praag in Tsjechië bevrijd hebben tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Er werden 395.000 medailles uitgereikt gedurende en na de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Aan de voorzijde staat: ЗА ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЕ ПРАГИ oftewel Voor de bevrijding van Praag.
Dit is het eerste type medaille.
