Original WWII German Volkssturm ID Tag – Stab Volkssturm-Bataillon 20/91 Hollabrunn Niederdonau

Original WWII German Deutscher Volkssturm identification tag belonging to the staff of Volkssturm-Bataillon 20/91.
The tag is stamped ’20/91 STAB DV 51′, with 20/91 referring to Volkssturm-Bataillon 20/91 and ‘STAB’ indicating that the wearer belonged to the battalion staff.
Volkssturm-Bataillon 20/91 belonged to the I. Aufgebot and was raised in Kreis Hollabrunn in Gau Niederdonau, present-day Lower Austria.
The Volkssturm was established in the autumn of 1944 to reinforce the German defenses during the final stage of the war.
In April 1945, the front reached the Hollabrunn district during the Soviet advance through Lower Austria.
Fighting took place in this region from 22 April onwards, and by the end of April the frontline had reached the Hollabrunn area.
Soviet formations including elements of the 53rd Army operated in this sector, although direct combat between this particular Volkssturm unit and the 53rd Army has not been documented.
The identification tag retains its three attachment holes and distinctive horizontal breaking slots.

Originele WWII Duitse Erkennungsmarke van het Deutscher Volkssturm, afkomstig van de staf van Volkssturm-Bataillon 20/91

De plaat is gestempeld met ’20/91 STAB DV 51′, waarbij 20/91 verwijst naar Volkssturm-Bataillon 20/91 en ‘STAB’ aangeeft dat de drager tot de bataljonsstaf behoorde.
Volkssturm-Bataillon 20/91 behoorde tot het I. Aufgebot en werd opgericht in Kreis Hollabrunn in Gau Niederdonau, het huidige Neder-Oostenrijk.
De Volkssturm werd in het najaar van 1944 opgericht om de Duitse verdediging tijdens de laatste fase van de oorlog te versterken.
In april 1945 bereikte het oorlogsfront ook Kreis Hollabrunn tijdens de Sovjetopmars door Neder-Oostenrijk.
Vanaf 22 april vonden in deze regio gevechten plaats en tegen het einde van april liep de frontlinie door het gebied rond Hollabrunn.
In deze sector opereerden onder andere formaties van het Sovjet 53e Leger, al is een rechtstreeks gevechtscontact tussen deze specifieke Volkssturm-eenheid en het 53e Leger niet gedocumenteerd.
De Erkennungsmarke is voorzien van drie bevestigingsgaten en de kenmerkende horizontale breeksleuven.
