During the Second World War Krakau was the capital of the Generalgouvernement, the German-administered territory in occupied Poland.
Within each district of the Generalgouvernement, the SS- und Polizeiführer was responsible for the SS and police units and for enforcing German order.
Exemption certificates such as the Freistellungschein were used to release persons employed at certain institutions, such as the Philharmonie, from compulsory labour duty or reporting obligations.
A rare and interesting document for the collector of German occupation documents from the Generalgouvernement and Krakau.
