Original WWII German propaganda leaflet ‘Life – Death’

Original German propaganda leaflet from the Second World War used during the Allied landings at Anzio, Italy, in 1944.
The leaflet was designed as a parody of the famous American magazine ‘Life’, featuring the title ‘Death’ above a skull wearing a military helmet on the front.
The reverse depicts a nude woman beneath the title ‘Life’, creating a striking contrast between life and death as a tool of psychological warfare.
Large quantities of these leaflets were distributed behind Allied lines in an attempt to weaken the morale of American and Allied troops.
This propaganda design is regarded as one of the best known examples of German psychological warfare during the Italian Campaign.

Origineel Duits propagandapamflet uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog dat werd ingezet tijdens de geallieerde landingen bij Anzio in Italië in 1944

Het pamflet is ontworpen als een parodie op het bekende Amerikaanse tijdschrift ‘Life’ waarbij de voorzijde is voorzien van de titel ‘Death’ met een schedel die een stalen helm draagt.
De achterzijde toont een naakte vrouw met de titel ‘Life’, waarmee het contrast tussen leven en dood als psychologisch propagandamiddel werd gebruikt.
