Original WWII German Propaganda Leaflet ‘British Soldiers – And What About You?’ 1944

Original German propaganda leaflet from World War II, produced in February 1944 and aimed at British servicemen.
The leaflet formed part of German psychological warfare and attempted to create distrust and jealousy between British and American troops.
One side features the heading ‘British Soldiers!’ and claims that British servicemen were fighting and dying far away from home while American troops remained in England and pursued their women.
Beside the text is an illustration of a soldier’s grave accompanied by the striking red words ‘And what about you?’.
The other side depicts a British serviceman with a woman on a bed accompanied by the caption ‘You Americans are sooo different!’.
Through this combination of provocative text and suggestive imagery, German propaganda attempted to exploit fear, jealousy and uncertainty among British frontline soldiers.
The printing code ‘AI-037-2-44’ appears in the lower right corner and dates the leaflet to February 1944.
The leaflet is in used condition with folds, small tears and edge damage as visible in the photos.
A visually striking and interesting example of German propaganda targeting relations between British and American Allied servicemen.

Origineel Duits propagandastrooibiljet uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog, geproduceerd in februari 1944 en gericht op Britse militairen

Het strooibiljet maakte deel uit van de Duitse psychologische oorlogsvoering en probeerde wantrouwen en jaloezie tussen Britse en Amerikaanse militairen te creëren.
Op de ene zijde staat de tekst ‘British Soldiers!’ met de boodschap dat Britse militairen ver van huis vochten en stierven, terwijl Amerikaanse militairen volgens de Duitse propaganda in Engeland verbleven en achter hun vrouwen aangingen.
Naast de tekst is een soldatengraf afgebeeld met de opvallende rode tekst ‘And what about you?’.
De andere zijde toont een Britse militair met een vrouw op een bed en de tekst ‘You Americans are sooo different!’.
Met deze combinatie van tekst en suggestieve afbeeldingen probeerde de Duitse propaganda in te spelen op angst, jaloezie en onzekerheid onder Britse frontsoldaten.
Rechtsonder staat de drukcode ‘AI-037-2-44’, waarmee het strooibiljet in februari 1944 kan worden gedateerd.
Het strooibiljet verkeert in gebruikte conditie met vouwen, kleine scheurtjes en beschadigingen langs de randen zoals zichtbaar op de foto’s.
Een grafisch opvallend en interessant voorbeeld van Duitse propaganda gericht op de onderlinge verhoudingen tussen Britse en Amerikaanse geallieerde militairen.
