Original WWII German Polizei photo album of the Matex in Vlaardingen

Original German Polizei photo album from the Second World War containing no fewer than 115 original photographs documenting the daily duties and security operations at the Matex industrial complex in Vlaardingen.
The album starts with the arrival of German police units at Rotterdam Maas railway station on 15 November 1940 and follows their activities throughout the occupation.
The photographs show the Matex oil storage facilities in Vlaardingen, fuel tanks, harbour installations, shipping on the River Maas, guard posts, transport vessels, destroyed storage tanks, fires, bomb damage, winter scenes with ice on the river and numerous portraits of German police personnel.
Also included are photographs of Rotterdam, the centre of Vlaardingen, the German paratroopers’ cemetery in The Hague, group photographs, guard changes, Christmas celebrations and everyday occupation life.
Many photographs feature original handwritten German captions identifying locations, people and events, including ‘Ankunft in Rotterdam-Maasstation am 15.11.1940’, ‘Transporter 8000 to. Torpedoboot’, ‘Zerstörte Tanks durch engl. Bomben’, ‘Weihnacht 1940 in Holland’, ‘Silvester 1940-41’, ‘Mit ‘Treff”, ‘Unsere Unterkunft nach einem Angriff der Tommys’ and several names of police personnel.
These captions make the album an exceptionally detailed historical record of German police security duties at the strategically important Matex installation in Vlaardingen.
The album remains in good used condition consistent with its wartime period.
Several photographs are loose but can easily be reattached if desired.

Origineel Duits Polizei fotoalbum uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog met maar liefst 115 originele foto’s die het dagelijks leven en de bewaking van het Matex-terrein in Vlaardingen documenteren.
Het album begint met de aankomst van Duitse politie-eenheden op station Rotterdam Maas op 15 november 1940 en volgt hun werkzaamheden gedurende de bezettingsperiode.
De foto’s tonen onder meer de industriële installaties van Matex in Vlaardingen, opslagtanks, haveninstallaties, scheepvaart op de Maas, wachtposten, transportboten, vernielde tanks, branden, schade na luchtaanvallen, winterbeelden met ijs op de Maas en diverse portretten van Duitse politiebeambten.
Ook zijn opnamen aanwezig van Rotterdam, het centrum van Vlaardingen, de begraafplaats van Duitse Fallschirmjäger in Den Haag, groepsfoto’s, wachtwisselingen, kerstvieringen en het dagelijkse leven tijdens de bezetting.
Veel foto’s zijn voorzien van originele handgeschreven Duitse bijschriften die de locaties, personen en gebeurtenissen benoemen, waaronder ‘Ankunft in Rotterdam-Maasstation am 15.11.1940’, ‘Transporter 8000 to.
