Original German photograph from the Second World War, taken in The Hague during the German occupation of the Netherlands.
The photograph shows several Dutch public notices and rationing announcements attached to a brick wall.
The central notice was issued by the Municipality of The Hague and bears the heading ‘Uitreiking distributiebescheiden’, concerning the distribution of ration documents.
It announces food ration cards for the 7th period from 14 June through 11 July 1942 and potato ration cards valid from 28 June through 8 August 1942.
Above the main notice is another wartime instruction concerning the reduction of fire hazards by keeping attics clear and accessible.
The photograph provides a clear contemporary view of food rationing and everyday conditions experienced by the population of The Hague during the occupation.

De foto toont verschillende Nederlandse bekendmakingen en distributieaankondigingen die op een bakstenen muur zijn aangebracht.
Centraal bevindt zich een grote bekendmaking van de Gemeente ‘s-Gravenhage met de tekst ‘Uitreiking distributiebescheiden’.
De bekendmaking heeft betrekking op bonkaarten voor voedingsmiddelen voor de 7e periode van 14 juni tot en met 11 juli 1942 en aardappelkaarten die geldig waren van 28 juni tot en met 8 augustus 1942.
Boven de bekendmaking hangt een voorschrift met de tekst ‘Een opgeruimde zolder vermindert brandgevaar. Maakt de hoeken en kanten toegankelijk’.
De foto geeft een duidelijk beeld van de distributie van levensmiddelen en de dagelijkse omstandigheden voor de bevolking van Den Haag tijdens de bezettingsperiode.
