This large size German photograph is in good condition, was taken in 1945 and shows the buildings which were destroyed during the battle of Berlin.
This photo was taken by German photographer Martin Badekow, who had a studio in Berlin before and during the war.

The battle for Berlin

The Battle of Berlin (April–May 1945) marked the bloody final stage of World War II in Europe.
Between April 16 and May 2, 1945, Soviet troops launched a massive offensive on the German capital.
What followed was a relentless fight, street by street, in which large parts of the city were destroyed.
The photo above shows a heavily damaged building in central Berlin—a stark example of the devastation the city suffered during the intense battles. Shops, homes, and infrastructure were literally reduced to rubble by artillery shelling and air raids. The inscription “Tirol” on the building suggests it was once a shop or café—now just a burnt-out, collapsed memory of a once vibrant Berlin.
These ruins tell the story of a city on the brink of total collapse, both physically and morally.

Originele WWII Duitse groot formaat foto Berlijn in 1945

Deze groot formaat Duitse foto is in goede conditie, werd gemaakt in 1945 en daarop zijn gebouwen te zien welke tijdens de slag om Berlijn beschadigd raakte.
Deze foto werd gemaakt door de Duitse fotograaf Martin Badekow, welke voor en tijdens de oorlog een atelier had in Berlijn.

De Slag om Berlijn

De Slag om Berlijn (april-mei 1945) markeerde het bloedige eindstadium van de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Europa. Tussen 16 april en 2 mei 1945 voerden Sovjettroepen een massaal offensief uit op de Duitse hoofdstad. Wat volgde was een meedogenloze strijd van straat tot straat, waarbij grote delen van de stad werden verwoest.
De foto hierboven toont een zwaar beschadigd gebouw in het centrum van Berlijn, een schrijnend voorbeeld van de verwoestingen die de stad troffen tijdens de intense gevechten. Winkels, huizen en infrastructuur werden letterlijk tot puin gereduceerd door artilleriebeschietingen en luchtaanvallen. De inscriptie “Tirol” op het gebouw doet vermoeden dat het ooit een winkel of café was – nu slechts een uitgebrande en ingestorte herinnering aan een Berlijn dat ooit bruist van leven.
Deze ruïnes vertellen het verhaal van een stad die op de rand van de totale ineenstorting stond, zowel fysiek als moreel.
