Hermann Göring

Hermann Göring (1893–1946) was a prominent German Nazi politician and military leader during the Third Reich. He was one of Hitler’s closest confidants and played a key role in the rise and execution of National Socialist policies.
Göring was the founder of the Gestapo (the secret state police), commander of the Luftwaffe (the German air force), and was appointed as Hitler’s designated successor.
He was also responsible for the Four Year Plan, aimed at preparing the German economy for war.
Göring was heavily involved in the looting of artworks in occupied territories and lived a lavish lifestyle that stood in stark contrast to the suffering of millions under the Nazi regime.
After the war, Göring was arrested and sentenced to death for war crimes and crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg Trials.
He committed suicide in 1946, shortly before his sentence was to be carried out.

Hermann Göring

Hermann Göring (1893–1946) was een prominente Duitse nazi-politicus en militair leider tijdens het Derde Rijk.
Hij was een van Hitlers naaste vertrouwelingen en speelde een sleutelrol in de opkomst en uitvoering van het nationaalsocialistische beleid.
Göring was onder andere oprichter van de Gestapo (de geheime staatspolitie), leider van de Luftwaffe (de Duitse luchtmacht) en benoemd tot Hitlers plaatsvervanger.
Göring was ook verantwoordelijk voor het Vierjarenplan, waarmee hij de Duitse economie voorbereidde op oorlog.
Hij was nauw betrokken bij de plundering van kunstwerken in bezette gebieden en had een luxueuze levensstijl die sterk contrasteerde met het lijden van miljoenen onder het naziregime.
Na de oorlog werd Göring gearresteerd en tijdens het Neurenbergtribunaal ter dood veroordeeld voor oorlogsmisdaden en misdaden tegen de menselijkheid.
Hij pleegde zelfmoord in 1946, kort voordat het vonnis zou worden voltrokken.
