The Submarine War Badge was usually awarded after two war patrols. Successful commanders were awarded the badge after one war patrol.

De U-bootkriegsabzeichen is in goede conditie en het betreft een ongemarkeerd exemplaar welke geproduceerd werd door Wilhelm Deumer.
Het Onderzeebootoorlogsinsigne werd meestal toegekend na twee oorlogspatrouilles.
Bij de succesvolle commandanten werden het insigne al toegekend na één oorlogspatrouille.
