Original WWII German KIA bloodstained Soldbuch and Erkunngsmarke ‘Battle of Salerno – Italy’

Werner Klein, Feldwebel received this soldbuch on the 13.8.1942 while already with the 1./ Infanterie Regiment 9, then renamed 1./Panzergrenadier Regiment 9 of the 26.Panzer Division.
When he received the soldbuch Klein had been with Infanterie Regiment 9 for a while and the regiment was part of the 23.Infanterie Division that fought in Poland, France and in the central sector of Russia until June 1942 where it was taken from the front and sent to refit in Charleroi in Belgium.
On the 10 September 1942 the majority of the 23.Infanterie Division was renamed and “upgraded” to 26.Panzer Division.
A smal part of the 23.ID instead would reform a new 23.Infanterie Division before being redeployed in Russia again.
The New 26.Panzer Division will remain in Charleroi for 1 years to train until June 1943 where it gets transferred to Italy.
In August 1943 Klein and his division is in Calabria fighting the Americans while retreating further north and then in September 1943 they were fighting against the Allied landed troops at Salerno in Italy.
On 23 September1943 the regiment is near Acerno (north of Salerno) and Klein gets killed in action.
He rests in the German Military Cemetery in Cassino.
His soldbuch and Half of his dog tag were taken from the body (The soldbuch still soaked with dirt and blood) and sent to his family.
With the soldbuch and his erkennungsmarke comes his death notice.

Originele WWII Duitse grouping KIA bebloed soldbuch met naamplaatje – Slag om Salerno in Italië

Werner Klein, Feldwebel – Hij ontving dit soldbuch op 13 augustus 1942 terwijl hij diende in de 1./ Infanterie Regiment 9, daarna hernoemd naar 1./Panzergrenadier Regiment 9 van de 26ste Panzer divisie.
Terwijl hij dit soldbuch ontving was hij a voor een tijdje bij het Infanterie Regiment 9 en deze eenheid was deel van de 23ste Infanterie divisie die onder andere vocht in Polen, Frankrijk en midden Rusland tot juni 1942, waarna het naar Charleroi in België gestuurd werd om uit te rusten.

Op 10 september 1942 werd het grootste deel van de 23ste Infanterie divisie hernoemd en geupgrate tot de 26ste Panzer divisie.
Een klein deel van de 23. ID zou de basis zijn voor de Nieuwe 23ste Infanterie divisie en zou opnieuw in Rusland dienen.
De nieuw gevormde 26ste Panzer divisie bleeft voor één jaar lang in Charleroi om te trainen tot juni 1943.
Zij werden naar het Italiaanse front overgeplaatst.
In augustus 1943 vochtten Feldwebel Klein en zijn eenheid in Calabria tegen de Amerikaanse troepen terwijl zij zich terug trokken en daarna in september 1943 vochtten zij tegen de Geallieerden die landde bij Salerno.
Op 23 september 1943 vocht Feldwebel Klein en zijn eenheid in de omgeving van Acerno (Noordelijk van Salerno) en hier sneuvelde hij in actie tegen de Amerikanen.
Hij werd begraven op de Duitse begraafplaats in Cassino.
Het soldbuch en het halve naamplaatje werden van het lichaam verwijderd (Het soldbuch is nog steeds doordrenkt met vuil en bloed) en naar zijn familie opgestuurd.
Samen met deze items komt ook zijn bidprentje.
