Original WWII German Fallschirmjäger Soldbuch set – WIA in Normandy 1944

The set is in used but fine condition and belonged to Herbert Feyl, a German paratrooper who served in the Fallschirmjäger regiment 8.
Beginning of the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6 1944, the division was transferred to the Cotentin peninsula in the Avranches area.
The division had the task of throwing the enemy, who had landed from the air and sea, back north and recapture the coast.
On June 8th, an advance unit arrived at Avranches and from June 10th it was moved northeast from St. Lô near the Cerisy forest,  on both sides of the road to Bayeux in the line northeastward Pt. Herbert – Caumont.
The area southwest of this line was the staging area for the advancing 3rd Paratrooper Division.
On June 14, American landing forces attacked the staging area of ​​the division along the Bayeux – St. Lô road.
The American attacks could be repulsed with high losses for the US troops.
On June 16, 1944, the divisional command post at Capelle du Fest was destroyed by Allied fighter-bombers and moved to Conde sur Vire.
On June 17th, the rest of the division arrived in the area.
From June 18, the entire division was united at the front.
The division’s defensive positions ran north-east of St. Lô in a large arc from Villiers-Fossard (about 6 km east of St. Lô) via Couvins – St. Germain d’Elle to the road from Torigny-sur-Vire to Caumont l ‘Eventè (about 6 km west of Caumont or 30 km south-east of St. Lô).
The front width was a total of 24 kilometers and, as a result, only allowed a thin cast.
The Fallschirmjäger regiment 8 was deployed to the right in the division section.
In the following weeks there were only reconnaissance and restraint attacks by the Americans, which resulted in daily losses for the division.
On June 25 1944, the units of the division undertook a limited counter-attack, which should lead to the relief of threatened groups in the neighboring section.
The attack was repulsed by the Americans with considerable losses for the division.
On July 11, 1944, the American offensive to take St. Lô began, with the 3rd Fallschirmjäger division suffering heavy losses.
On July 18, 1944, American units invaded St. Lô after their breakthrough in the left-leaning 352nd Infantry Division.
The 3rd Fallschirmjäger division had to retreat to the line south of the Bayeux – St. Lô road with the front facing north and northeast.
On July 25, 1944, strong US units broke through the positions of the 5th Fallschirmjäger division to the south after a heavy bomb attack.
Herbert Feyl became wounded on 22 July 1944 during the American attacks on St. Lô and he was evacuated to the hospital.
On the August 12, 1944 he was transferred to the Reserve Lazaret Nassau (Lahn) and four days later he received the wound badge in black.
He probably stayed in the hospital until the end of the war.
The set contains his soldbuch, verwundeten abzeichen im Schwarz citation and his Arbeitsbuch.

Originele WWII Duitse Fallschirmjäger soldbuch set ‘Gewond in Normandië 1944’

De set is in een gebruikte maar prima conditie en behoorde tot de Duitse parachutist Herbert Feyl die diende in Fallschirmjäger regiment 8.
Bij het begin van de geallieerde invasie van Normandië op 6 juni 1944 werd de divisie overgebracht naar het schiereiland Cotentin in het gebied van Avranches.
De divisie had de taak de vijand, die vanuit de lucht en de zee was geland, terug naar het noorden te werpen en de kust te heroveren.
Op 8 juni arriveerde een vooruitgeschoven eenheid in Avranches en vanaf 10 juni werd deze naar het noordoosten verplaatst van St. Lô nabij het Cerisy-bos, aan beide zijden van de weg naar Bayeux in de lijn in noordoostelijke richting Pt. Herbert – Caumont. Het gebied ten zuidwesten van deze linie was de verzamelplaats voor de oprukkende 3de Fallschirmjäger divisie.
Op 14 juni vielen Amerikaanse landingskrachten het verzamelgebied van de divisie langs de weg Bayeux – St. Lô aan.
De Amerikaanse aanvallen konden worden afgeslagen met hoge verliezen voor de Amerikaanse troepen.
Op 16 juni 1944 werd de divisiecommandopost bij Capelle du Fest verwoest door geallieerde jachtbommenwerpers en verplaatst naar Conde sur Vire.
Op 17 juni arriveerde de rest van de divisie in het gebied.
Vanaf 18 juni was de hele divisie verenigd aan het front.
De verdedigingsposities van de divisie liepen ten noordoosten van St. Lô in een grote boog van Villiers-Fossard (ongeveer 6 km ten oosten van St. Lô) via Couvins – St. Germain d’Elle naar de weg van Torigny-sur-Vire naar Caumont l ‘Eventè (ongeveer 6 km ten westen van Caumont of 30 km ten zuidoosten van St. Lô).
De frontbreedte was in totaal 24 kilometer.
Het Fallschirmjäger-regiment 8 werd rechts in de divisie-sectie ingezet.
In de daaropvolgende weken waren er alleen verkennings- en terughoudende aanvallen door de Amerikanen, wat resulteerde in dagelijkse verliezen voor de divisie.
Op 25 juni 1944 voerden de eenheden van de divisie een beperkte tegenaanval uit, die zou moeten leiden tot de aflossing van bedreigde groepen in de aangrenzende sectie.
De aanval werd afgeslagen door de Amerikanen met aanzienlijke verliezen voor de divisie.
Op 11 juli 1944 begon het Amerikaanse offensief om St. Lô in te nemen, waarbij de 3e Fallschirmjäger-divisie zware verliezen leed.
Op 18 juli 1944 vielen Amerikaanse eenheden St. Lô binnen na hun doorbraak in de linkse 352e Infanterie divisie.
De 3e Fallschirmjäger divisie moest zich terugtrekken naar de linie ten zuiden van de weg Bayeux – St. Lô met de voorkant op het noorden en noordoosten.
Op 25 juli 1944 braken sterke Amerikaanse eenheden na een zwaar bombardement op de posities van de 5e Fallschirmjäger divisie in het zuiden.
Herbert Feyl raakte op 22 juli 1944 gewond tijdens de Amerikaanse aanvallen op St. Lô en werd geëvacueerd naar het ziekenhuis.
Op 12 augustus 1944 werd hij overgebracht naar het Reserve Lazaret Nassau (Lahn) en vier dagen later ontving hij het verwundeten abzeichen im schwarz.
Vermoedelijk bleef hij tot het einde van de oorlog in het ziekenhuis.
De set bevat zijn soldbuch, verwundeten abzeichen im schwarz oorkonde en zijn Arbeitsbuch.
Een zeer zeldzame Duitse Fallschirmjäger Normandië set voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog of militaria collectie!
