Original WWII German Erkennungsmarke Beobachtungs-Abteilung 26

This German Erkennungsmarke is in good condition and was worn by a member of the Beobachtungs-Abteilung 26.

Beobachtungs-Abteilung 26 was formed on August 26, 1939 in Lemgo, Wehrkreis VI. The Abteilung was formed for the 26th Infantry Division and was subordinated to it. In December 1939, the Abteilung became an army unit. During the eastern campaign, the Abteilung was deployed in northern Russia with the 18th Army. On May 1, 1942, the Abteilung was converted into a light observation division (mot). In the process, the 1st (survey) battery was disbanded. The survey battery was re-established in the fall of 1942. On May 27, 1942, a balloon platoon from the balloon battery of Beobachtungs-Abteilung 4 was incorporated. At the end of the war, the Abteilung was deployed with the XXXXVI Panzer-Korps in the Warsaw area and later in West Prussia.

Deze Duitse Erkennungsmarke is in goede conditie en werd gedragen door een lid van het Beobachtungs-Abteilung 26.

Beobachtungs-Abteilung 26 werd opgericht op 26 augustus 1939 in Lemgo, Wehrkreis VI. De Abteilung werd gevormd voor de 26e Infanteriedivision en was daaraan ondergeschikt. In december 1939 werd de Abteilung een legereenheid. Tijdens de oostelijke campagne werd de Abteilung ingezet in Noord-Rusland met het 18de Leger. Op 1 mei 1942 werd de divisie omgevormd tot een lichte observatie divisie (mot). Hierbij werd de 1e (landmeetkundige) batterij opgeheven. De verkenningsbatterij werd in de herfst van 1942 weer opgericht. Op 27 mei 1942 werd een ballonpeloton van de ballonbatterij van Beobachtungs-Abteilung 4 ingelijfd. Aan het einde van de oorlog werd de Abteilung ingezet bij het XXXXVI Pantserkorps in het Warschau gebied en later in West-Pruisen.
