Original WWII German document Leeuwarden (Friesland)

Original German military order from the early phase of the Second World War, issued by Feldkommandantur 611 in Leeuwarden (Friesland) and dated 13 May 1940, shortly after the German invasion of the Netherlands.

The document is an official “Kommandantur-Befehl” stating that, by order of the Oberfeldkommandantur, all available petrol and other motor vehicle fuels within the entire province were to be confiscated for the benefit of the German Wehrmacht. It explicitly stipulates that no quantity of fuel may be supplied to the civilian population. Owners were required to report their name and place of residence, the exact storage location, and the quantity of fuel held, specified by type. Violations or the deliberate rendering unusable of fuel supplies were to be punished with the most severe penalties.

The order is signed by v. Altweijer, Oberst and Field Commandant, and represents a clear example of the immediate military control and economic measures introduced directly after the occupation.

Origineel Duits militair bevelschrift uit de beginfase van de Tweede Wereldoorlog, uitgevaardigd door Feldkommandantur 611 te Leeuwarden (Friesland) en gedateerd 13 mei 1940, kort na de Duitse inval in Nederland. Het document betreft een officieel “Kommandantur-Befehl” waarin op bevel van de Oberfeldkommandantur al het aanwezige benzine en overige brandstoffen voor motorvoertuigen in de gehele provincie in beslag worden genomen ten behoeve van de Duitse Wehrmacht. Tevens wordt nadrukkelijk bepaald dat geen enkele hoeveelheid brandstof meer aan de burgerbevolking mag worden verstrekt. Eigenaren dienen opgave te doen van naam en woonplaats, exacte opslaglocatie en de aanwezige voorraad, uitgesplitst naar soort. Overtreding of het onbruikbaar maken van brandstof wordt met de zwaarste straffen bedreigd. Het bevel is ondertekend door v. Altweijer, Oberst und Feldkommandant, en vormt een duidelijk voorbeeld van de directe militaire controle en economische maatregelen die direct na de bezetting werden ingevoerd.
