Original WWII German book signed by the SS-Hauptsturmführer and leader of the Ergänzungstelle Nordwest

This German book “Die Niederlande im Umbruch der Zeiten” is in used condition, contains 395 pages with dust jacket and was awarded at the 1941 Julfest in the Netherlands and signed by the SS-Hauptsturmführer and leader of the Ergänzungstelle Nordwest.
An interesting book for the Dutch collaboration collection!
During the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II, the Ergänzungsstelle Nordwest was established as a recruiting office of the Waffen-SS. The Dutch branch was located at Stadhouderslaan 132 in The Hague.
From this office, active propaganda was conducted to recruit Dutch men for service on the Eastern Front, including for the Volunteer Legion Netherlands and other SS units.
Recruitment focused on young men as young as 17 and used posters, leaflets and meetings to persuade volunteers to join Nazi Germany’s fight against communism. The presence of this agency illustrates the SS’s attempt to include “Germanic fraternal peoples” such as the Dutch in their ideology and warfare.

Dit Duitse boek ‘Die Niederlande im Umbruch der Zeiten’ is in gebruikte conditie, bevat 395 pagina’s met stofomslag en werd uitgereikt op het Julfest van 1941 in Nederland en gesigneerd door de SS-Hauptsturmführer en leider van de Ergänzungstelle Nordwest.

Tijdens de Duitse bezetting van Nederland in de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd de Ergänzungsstelle Nordwest opgericht als rekruteringsbureau van de Waffen-SS. De Nederlandse vestiging bevond zich aan de Stadhouderslaan 132 in Den Haag. Vanuit dit kantoor werd actief propaganda gevoerd om Nederlandse mannen te werven voor dienst aan het Oostfront, onder meer voor het Vrijwilligerslegioen Nederland en andere SS-eenheden. De werving richtte zich op jonge mannen vanaf 17 jaar en maakte gebruik van posters, folders en bijeenkomsten om vrijwilligers te overtuigen zich aan te sluiten bij de strijd van Nazi-Duitsland tegen het communisme. De aanwezigheid van dit bureau illustreert de poging van de SS om “Germaanse broedervolken” zoals de Nederlanders in hun ideologie en oorlogsvoering te betrekken.
