Original WWII German Afrikakorps cuff title

This German cuff title is in mint condition and was produced for the German soldiers who participated in the Afrika Korps.

The Afrikakorps

The Afrikakorps (officially Deutsches Afrikakorps, DAK) was a German military unit that fought in North Africa during World War II.
It was established in 1941 to support Italian troops in Libya and was commanded by General Erwin Rommel, nicknamed the “Desert Fox” for his tactical prowess.
Initially, the Afrikakorps achieved significant successes against British forces, notably during the Battle of Gazala and the capture of Tobruk.
However, its advance was halted at El Alamein (1942), where the British, led by General Bernard Montgomery, secured a decisive victory.
After the Allied landings in North Africa (Operation Torch), the Afrikakorps found itself increasingly outmatched and was ultimately forced to surrender in Tunisia in 1943.

Het Afrikakorps

Het Afrikakorps (voluit Deutsches Afrikakorps, DAK) was een Duitse militaire eenheid die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Noord-Afrika vocht.
Het werd in 1941 opgericht om de Italiaanse troepen in Libië te ondersteunen en stond onder bevel van generaal Erwin Rommel, bijgenaamd de “Woestijnvos” vanwege zijn tactische behendigheid.
Het Afrikakorps boekte aanvankelijk grote successen tegen de Britse troepen, onder andere tijdens de Slag om Gazala en de inname van Tobroek.
De opmars werd echter gestuit bij El Alamein (1942), waar de Britten onder leiding van generaal Bernard Montgomery een beslissende overwinning behaalden.
Na de geallieerde landing in Noord-Afrika (Operatie Torch) raakte het Afrikakorps verder in het nauw en moest het zich in 1943 uiteindelijk overgeven in Tunesië.
