Willem Bernard Engelbrecht
Willem Bernard Engelbrecht was a former Dutch diplomat and National Socialist official. Born in Batavia in 1881, he served as envoy to Warsaw until his diplomatic career ended in 1934. Following the German invasion of the Netherlands in 1940, he joined Anton Mussert’s NSB (National Socialist Movement).
From 1941 to 1945, he held the position of Commissioner of the Province of Utrecht, a key administrative role under the Nazi occupation.
In 1942, he was also appointed chairman of the Dutch Red Cross, though under strict conditions due to his political alignment.
After the war, Engelbrecht was tried in 1946 and sentenced to three years in prison for collaboration.
He lost his civil rights, official titles, and decorations. Engelbrecht died in Utrecht in 1955.

Willem Bernard Engelbrecht (1881–1955)
Willem Bernard Engelbrecht was een voormalig Nederlands diplomaat en nationaalsocialistisch bestuurder. Hij werd geboren in Batavia in 1881 en diende als gezant in Warschau tot zijn diplomatieke loopbaan in 1934 werd beëindigd.
Na de Duitse inval in 1940 sloot hij zich aan bij de NSB van Anton Mussert. Van 1941 tot 1945 was hij als Commissaris der Provincie Utrecht een belangrijke figuur binnen het nationaalsocialistische bestuur. In 1942 werd hij bovendien benoemd tot voorzitter van het Nederlandse Rode Kruis, zij het onder strikte voorwaarden vanwege zijn politieke affiliatie.
Na de bevrijding werd Engelbrecht in 1946 veroordeeld wegens zijn collaboratie met de bezetter.
Hij kreeg drie jaar gevangenisstraf, verloor zijn kiesrecht, ambtelijke bevoegdheden en onderscheidingen. Engelbrecht overleed in 1955 in Utrecht.
