Max Blokzijl was born on 20 december 1884 in Leeuwarden and he worked just after World War I as an correspondent in Berlin.
After the German army occupied the Netherlands in May 1940, Blokzijl openly expressed his National Socialist ideas.
From February 1941 he provided weekly radio talks for the Nederlandsche Omroep, under the title “I was there myself”.
The trial against Blokzijl soon followed after the war, which was followed with great interest because of his great fame among the Dutch public.
The indictment contained only one point: the accusation that during the years of occupation, while the Netherlands was at war with Germany, he deliberately carried out public propaganda, mainly by radio, aimed at breaking the spiritual resistance of the Dutch people and making that people become unfaithful to the common allied cause.
He was sentenced to death and was executed on March 16, 1946 on the Waalsdorpervlakte.
A very rare photo with signature for the NSB or collaboration collection!
