The NSB in Doetinchem during World War II

During the German occupation, the National Socialist Movement (NSB) was also active in Doetinchem, as it was in many other towns in the Netherlands. The local NSB branch supported the occupying forces and sought to influence local administration, education, and daily life.
As elsewhere, the NSB in Doetinchem consisted mainly of a small minority of committed followers, who joined for ideological reasons, opportunism, or career advancement.
The NSB’s presence created tensions within the community, especially as some members became involved in betraying people in hiding or assisting in the repression of resistance activities.
After the liberation in April 1945, several NSB members in Doetinchem were arrested and brought to justice.

De NSB in Doetinchem tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog

Tijdens de Duitse bezetting (1940–1945) was de Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging (NSB) ook actief in Doetinchem, net als in veel andere steden in Nederland.
De lokale NSB-afdeling ondersteunde de bezettingsmacht en probeerde invloed uit te oefenen op het bestuur, het onderwijs en het dagelijks leven. Net als elders bestond de NSB in Doetinchem vooral uit een kleine minderheid van overtuigde aanhangers, die zich aansloten uit ideologische overtuiging, opportunisme of carrièremotieven.
De aanwezigheid van de NSB leidde tot spanningen binnen de gemeenschap, vooral toen ze betrokken raakten bij het verraden van onderduikers en verzetsactiviteiten.
Na de bevrijding in april 1945 werden diverse NSB’ers in Doetinchem gearresteerd en berecht.
