Original WWII Dutch Dräger Pulmotor Oxygen Resuscitation Apparatus Oxygenium Schiedam 1943

Rare original WWII Dutch Dräger/Pulmotor oxygen and resuscitation apparatus in its original wooden transport case, supplied by N.V. Maatschappij ‘Oxygenium’ of Schiedam.
The apparatus was intended for administering medicinal oxygen and for emergency and resuscitation purposes involving people suffering from severe breathing difficulties or oxygen deprivation.
This type of Dräger/Pulmotor oxygen apparatus could be used in hospitals but was specifically designed as portable emergency and resuscitation equipment that could also be deployed outside hospitals.
Equipment of this type was used in hospitals, by fire brigades and rescue services and at locations where oxygen and emergency resuscitation assistance needed to be readily available.
The set includes a wooden transport case, blue medicinal oxygen cylinder, pressure regulator, gauges, breathing mask, hoses, carrying straps and various associated components.
One of the gauges is marked ‘Finimeter’ and ‘Drägerwerk, Lübeck’, while the regulator is marked with number 314491 and the German inscription ‘Gegen Ausbrennen geschützt’.
The wooden case carries a metal plate from N.V. Maatschappij ‘Oxygenium’, Buitenhavenweg 50 in Schiedam, together with the designation ‘Eerste Nederlandsche Gassen- en Apparatenfabriek’.
The set also retains its original ‘Controlekaart Medicinale Zuurstof’, on which the contents and inspections of the different oxygen cylinders were recorded.
The card states that the large cylinders had a capacity of 10 litres at 150 atmospheres, equivalent to 1500 litres of oxygen, while the small cylinders contained 2 litres at 150 atmospheres, equivalent to 300 litres of oxygen.
It also records that a yellow cylinder contained 95% oxygen and 5% carbon dioxide, while the blue cylinder contained 100% oxygen.
The handwritten inspection entries on the card begin in 1943, documenting the use of this oxygen equipment during the Second World War.
The blue oxygen cylinder still retains its old ‘Oxygenium’ Schiedam label with the inscriptions ‘Medicinale Zuurstof’ and ‘electrolytisch bereid’.
The combination of the Dräger apparatus, oxygen cylinder, breathing mask, hoses, accessories, wooden transport case and dated inspection card makes this a rare Dutch medical and technical object from the Second World War.

Zeldzaam Origineel WWII Nederlands Dräger/Pulmotor zuurstof- en reanimatieapparaat in de originele houten transportkist, geleverd door N.V. Maatschappij ‘Oxygenium’ te Schiedam

Het apparaat was bedoeld voor het toedienen van medicinale zuurstof en voor nood- en reanimatietoepassingen bij personen met ernstige ademhalingsproblemen of zuurstofgebrek.
Dit type Dräger/Pulmotor-zuurstofapparaat kon in ziekenhuizen worden gebruikt, maar was juist ontworpen als een transportabel nood- en reanimatieapparaat dat ook buiten het ziekenhuis ingezet kon worden.
Dergelijke apparatuur werd onder meer gebruikt in ziekenhuizen, door brandweer en reddingsdiensten en op locaties waar snel zuurstof en reanimatiehulp beschikbaar moesten zijn.
De set bestaat onder meer uit een houten transportkist, blauwe medicinale zuurstoffles, drukregelaar, manometers, ademhalingsmasker, slangen, draagbanden en verschillende bijbehorende onderdelen.
Op een van de meters staat ‘Finimeter’ en ‘Drägerwerk, Lübeck’, terwijl op het regelgedeelte het nummer 314491 en de Duitse tekst ‘Gegen Ausbrennen geschützt’ zichtbaar zijn.
De houten kist draagt een metalen plaatje van N.V. Maatschappij ‘Oxygenium’, Buitenhavenweg 50 te Schiedam, met daarnaast de vermelding ‘Eerste Nederlandsche Gassen- en Apparatenfabriek’.
Bij de set bevindt zich tevens de originele ‘Controlekaart Medicinale Zuurstof’, waarop de inhoud en controles van de verschillende zuurstofflessen werden bijgehouden.
Op deze kaart staat dat de grote flessen een inhoud hadden van 10 liter bij 150 atmosfeer, overeenkomend met 1500 liter zuurstof, terwijl de kleine flessen 2 liter bij 150 atmosfeer en daarmee 300 liter zuurstof bevatten.
De kaart vermeldt daarnaast dat een gele fles 95% zuurstof en 5% koolzuur bevatte en dat de blauwe fles 100% zuurstof bevatte.
De handgeschreven controleaantekeningen op de kaart beginnen in 1943 en documenteren daarmee het gebruik van deze zuurstofuitrusting tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
De blauwe zuurstoffles draagt nog het oude etiket van ‘Oxygenium’ Schiedam met de opschriften ‘Medicinale Zuurstof’ en ‘electrolytisch bereid’.
De combinatie van het Dräger-apparaat, de zuurstoffles, het ademhalingsmasker, de slangen, accessoires, houten transportkist en gedateerde controlekaart maakt dit een zeldzaam Nederlands medisch-technisch object uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
