This British photograph is in good condition and shows infantrymen on tanks near the Reichswald during Operation Veritable in February 1945.
Operation Veritable was the Allied offensive that began on February 8, 1945, during World War II.
The objective was to reach the Rhine from the Reichswald in Germany and thus clear the way to the Ruhr area. British and Canadian troops, under the command of Field Marshal Montgomery, took part, supported by American units.
The operation began with a massive artillery barrage, followed by difficult fighting in marshy and wooded terrain.
Because the Germans had breached the dikes along the Rhine, the area turned into a swamp, which greatly slowed the advance.
Despite heavy losses and fierce resistance, the Allies managed to break through the German lines.

Deze Britse foto is in goede conditie en daarop zijn infanteristen op tanks bij het Reichswald te zien tijdens Operation Veritable in februari 1945.
Operatie Veritable was het geallieerde offensief dat op 8 februari 1945 begon in de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Het doel was om vanuit het Reichswald in Duitsland de Rijn te bereiken en zo de weg naar het Ruhrgebied vrij te maken. Britse en Canadese troepen, onder bevel van veldmaarschalk Montgomery, namen deel, gesteund door Amerikaanse eenheden.
De operatie begon met een enorme artilleriebeschieting, gevolgd door moeizame gevechten in drassig en bebost terrein.
Omdat de Duitsers de dijken langs de Rijn hadden doorgebroken, veranderde het gebied in een moeras, wat de opmars sterk vertraagde.
Ondanks zware verliezen en hevig verzet, slaagden de geallieerden erin de Duitse linies te doorbreken.
