Original WWII British Indian Army embroidered formation patch of the 26th Indian Infantry Division from the Second World War. The division formed part of the British Indian Army and was established in 1942 for military operations in the India and Burma region. The formation insignia features a triangular black cloth backing with a distinctive blue embroidered triangle and a golden-yellow Bengal tiger. The tiger is depicted in a seated position facing right and served as the identifying emblem of the 26th Indian Infantry Division. During the Second World War, the division was deployed against Japanese forces and participated in military operations in the Arakan region of Burma. This formation patch was worn on the military uniform to identify the soldier’s divisional affiliation. The insignia is manufactured from embroidered textile threads and features a black cloth border surrounding the triangular design. The reverse clearly displays the embroidery threads and the construction of the patch. The example remains in used condition with visible traces of wear, deterioration to parts of the embroidery and several loose threads on the reverse. An interesting original divisional formation patch for collectors of British and British Indian militaria, military uniform insignia and the Burma Campaign of the Second World War.
