Original WWI Dutch army photo from Harskamp in 1914

This unpublished Dutch photograph is in good condition, dates from 1914 and shows the Grenadiers detachment during mobilization for World War I in Harskamp.
The photo shows a 10 soldiers in front of a white tent and this photograph was printed on postcard size.
This photo was also sent as a postcard to an address in Veenendaal.

Harskamp during the First World War

During the First World War (1914–1918), the Netherlands remained officially neutral, but that did not mean the country was without military readiness.
In Harskamp, located on the Veluwe, there had been a military training ground since 1896.
During the war, this area was heavily used for mobilization and exercises by the Dutch army.
Thousands of soldiers were stationed or trained there as part of the country’s border defense. The presence of so many troops brought a temporary economic boost to the village but also significantly changed the daily lives of its residents.

Deze ongepubliceerde Nederlandse foto is in goede conditie, dateert uit 1914 en daarop is het detachement Grenadiers tijdens de mobilisatie voor de Eerste Wereldoorlog in Harskamp te zien.
Op de foto zijn 10 soldaten voor een witte tent te zien en deze foto werd afgedrukt op postkaart formaat.
Deze foto werd tevens als postkaart verstuurd naar een adres in Veenendaal.

Harskamp tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog

Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog (1914-1918) bleef Nederland officieel neutraal, maar dat betekende niet dat het land geen militaire paraatheid kende.
In Harskamp, gelegen op de Veluwe, bevond zich al sinds 1896 een militair oefenterrein.
Tijdens de oorlog werd dit terrein intensief gebruikt voor mobilisatie en oefeningen van het Nederlandse leger. Duizenden militairen werden hier gestationeerd of trainden er, als onderdeel van de verdediging van de landsgrenzen.
De aanwezigheid van zoveel soldaten bracht een tijdelijke economische opleving met zich mee voor het dorp, maar veranderde ook het dagelijks leven van de inwoners ingrijpend.
