Original WWII Allied propaganda leaflet Afrika-Post 1943

This original Allied propaganda leaflet, titled “Afrika-Post – Nachrichtenblatt für deutsche Truppen in Tunesien” and dated April 8, 1943, is a rare and historic document from the final phase of the North African Campaign during World War II. It was dropped by the Allies over German positions in Tunisia with the aim of undermining morale and encouraging German troops to surrender.

The leaflet is entirely written in German and contains sharply targeted psychological propaganda. The striking headline “Eingekesselt!” (“Encircled!”) refers to the desperate military situation of German forces in Tunisia.
Inside, it includes maps, statistics on losses, critical questions directed at the soldiers, and appeals urging them to surrender in order to save their lives. The text deliberately plays on homesickness, fear, and the hopelessness of the situation, typical elements of Allied psychological warfare.

Although such leaflets were produced in huge quantities, their fragile wartime paper and the circumstances in which they were used mean that well-preserved originals are rarely found today.

Origineel WWII Geallieerd propaganda strooibiljet Afrika-Post 1943

Dit originele Geallieerde propaganda-strooibiljet, getiteld “Afrika-Post – Nachrichtenblatt für deutsche Truppen in Tunesien” en gedateerd 8 april 1943, is een zeldzaam en historisch document uit de laatste fase van de Noord-Afrikaanse campagne tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Het werd door de geallieerden boven Duitse stellingen in Tunesië uitgestrooid met als doel het moreel van de Duitse troepen te ondermijnen en hen tot overgave te bewegen.
Het pamflet is volledig in het Duits opgesteld en bevat scherpe, psychologisch gerichte propaganda.
De opvallende kop “Eingekesselt!” (“Ingesloten!”) verwijst naar de benarde militaire situatie van de Duitse troepen in Tunesië. Binnenin staan kaarten, statistieken over verliezen, kritische vragen aan de soldaten en oproepen om zich over te geven om hun leven te redden.
De tekst speelt bewust in op heimwee, angst en de uitzichtloosheid van de strijd, typische elementen van geallieerde psychologische oorlogsvoering.
Dergelijke pamfletten werden in enorme aantallen geproduceerd, maar zijn door hun kwetsbare materiaal en gebruiksomstandigheden zelden goed bewaard gebleven.
