Centraal bevindt zich een portret van een Nederlandse militair in uniform, met aan weerszijden het Mobilisatiekruis en de kleinere miniatuuruitvoering.
Het Mobilisatiekruis werd ingesteld in 1924 als herinnering aan de Nederlandse mobilisatie tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog van 1914-1918.
Nederland bleef tijdens de oorlog neutraal, maar mobiliseerde zijn strijdkrachten om de neutraliteit en landsgrenzen te bewaken.
