Original Austro-Hungarian Red Cross Bronze Merit Medal with War Decoration from the First World War.
This decoration belongs to the Austrian Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste um das Rote Kreuz and was instituted in 1914 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Red Cross.
The obverse depicts two angels with an enamelled Red Cross shield in the centre, a radiant star above and the Latin motto ‘PATRIAE AC HUMANITATI’ below.
The green enamelled wreath surrounding the medallion represents the War Decoration and indicates that this version was associated with merit under wartime conditions.
The reverse bears the dates ‘1864’ and ‘1914’, referring to the fiftieth anniversary.
The medal retains its original triangular folded white and red ribbon and shows clear traces of wear.

Originele Oostenrijks-Hongaarse bronzen verdienste medaille van het Rode Kruis met oorlogsdecoratie uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog

Deze onderscheiding behoort tot het Oostenrijkse Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste um das Rote Kreuz en werd in 1914 ingesteld ter gelegenheid van het 50-jarig bestaan van het Rode Kruis.
De voorzijde toont twee engelen met centraal het geëmailleerde Rode Kruis, daarboven een stralende ster en onderaan het Latijnse motto ‘PATRIAE AC HUMANITATI’.
De groen geëmailleerde krans rondom het medaillon vormt de oorlogsdecoratie en geeft aan dat deze uitvoering verband houdt met verdiensten tijdens oorlogsomstandigheden.
