Original Swedish/Dutch-Indies Hagelin C-446-A cipher machine

This rare Hagelin C-446-A cipher machine, produced by A.B. Cryptoteknik in Stockholm, is an early mechanical encryption unit and comes in its original metal transport case with keys. The robust housing contains the complete internal mechanism, including coding tapes, rotary selectors and number indicators, used to generate encrypted messages mechanically.
The metal identification plate with type and serial number (No. 4544) is clearly present, as is the historical “Koopman & Co Amsterdam–Bandoeng” dealer plate on the case.

Koopman & Co (Amsterdam – Bandoeng) was a Dutch commercial and technical supply company active in both the Netherlands and the former Dutch East Indies. Although relatively little public documentation survives, the firm is known to have supplied technical equipment, measuring instruments and specialist devices to companies, government institutions and military departments.
With branches in the Netherlands and on Java, Koopman & Co operated as a distributor of high-quality European equipment for colonial administrations, telecommunications services, engineering offices and military units.

Deze zeldzame Hagelin C-446-A codeermachine, geproduceerd door A.B. Cryptoteknik in Stockholm, is een vroege mechanische encryptie-eenheid en wordt geleverd in de originele metalen transportkist met sleutels. De robuuste behuizing bevat het complete interne mechanisme, inclusief coderingsbanden, draaischakelaars en nummerindicatoren, waarmee gecodeerde berichten mechanisch konden worden gegenereerd.
