Original Dutch Political Prisoner Mining District Limburg insignia

This cloth insignia bears the inscriptions “Politieke Gevangene” (Political Prisoner) and “Militair Gez. Mijnstreek”(Military Authority, Mining District) and dates from the period immediately after the Second World War. It was used to identify political prisoners who were held under the supervision of the Military Authority in the Mijnstreek (South Limburg). This temporary military administrative body was responsible, in the aftermath of liberation, for maintaining order, interning collaborators, and restoring civil administration. The insignia is made of light-colored fabric with black lettering.

Dit stoffen embleem draagt de opschriften “Politieke Gevangene” en “Militair Gez. Mijnstreek” en dateert uit de periode direct na de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
Het werd gebruikt om politieke gevangenen te identificeren die onder toezicht stonden van het Militair Gezag in de Mijnstreek (Zuid-Limburg).
Deze tijdelijke militaire bestuurseenheid was vlak na de bevrijding verantwoordelijk voor ordehandhaving, internering van collaborateurs en het herstellen van het civiele bestuur.
Het embleem is uitgevoerd op een lichtgekleurde stof met in zwarte letters.
