Original Dutch Officers Long Service Cross awarded for 20 years of effective military service.
The decoration was instituted on 19 November 1844 by King William II of the Netherlands and is also widely known among collectors as the Officers Cross.
It was awarded to officers of the Dutch armed forces in recognition of long, honourable and effective service.
This example represents the 20-year service grade, identified by the Roman numeral ‘XX’ in the central medallion.
The decoration has the distinctive four-armed cross design with a wreath surrounding the ‘XX’ service numeral.
The cross is suspended from its traditional blue, white and orange ribbon.
The Officers Long Service Cross is one of the longstanding Dutch military decorations and was issued in different versions corresponding with the recipient’s completed years of service.

Origineel Nederlands Onderscheidingsteken voor Langdurige Dienst als Officier voor 20 jaar effectieve dienst

De onderscheiding werd op 19 november 1844 ingesteld door koning Willem II en staat onder verzamelaars tevens bekend als het Officierskruis.
Het kruis werd toegekend aan officieren van de Nederlandse krijgsmacht als erkenning voor langdurige eervolle en effectieve dienst.
Dit exemplaar betreft de uitvoering voor 20 dienstjaren, herkenbaar aan het Romeinse cijfer ‘XX’ in het centrale medaillon.
Het kruis heeft de kenmerkende vierarmige vorm met in het midden een krans rond de aanduiding ‘XX’.
De onderscheiding hangt aan het traditionele lint in de kleuren blauw, wit en oranje.
Het Officierskruis vormt een van de langst bestaande Nederlandse militaire onderscheidingen en werd in verschillende uitvoeringen voor het aantal volbrachte dienstjaren uitgereikt.
Een interessant origineel Nederlands militair ereteken uit de traditie die tijdens de regering van koning Willem II werd ingesteld.
