Original Dutch New Guinea Commemorative Cross complete with its original ribbon, ribbon bar and presentation case.
This Dutch military decoration was instituted in 1962 to commemorate military service in the former Netherlands New Guinea.
The New Guinea Commemorative Cross was awarded to military personnel who served for at least three months between 28 December 1949 and 23 November 1962 in Netherlands New Guinea.
The obverse features a five-pointed star surrounding the inscription ‘Nieuw-Guinea’ beneath the Dutch Royal Crown.
The reverse displays the Dutch lion, the national emblem of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
This example is presented in its original presentation case issued by the Royal Dutch Mint in Utrecht and includes the matching ribbon bar.
Inside the lid is a handwritten inscription bearing the name ‘Jan de Vast’.

Deze Nederlandse onderscheiding werd ingesteld in 1962 ter herinnering aan de militaire inzet in voormalig Nederlands-Nieuw-Guinea.
Het Nieuw-Guinea Herinneringskruis werd toegekend aan militairen die tussen 28 december 1949 en 23 november 1962 minimaal drie maanden in actieve dienst waren in Nederlands-Nieuw-Guinea.
De voorzijde toont een vijfpuntige ster met de tekst ‘Nieuw-Guinea’, bekroond met de Nederlandse koninklijke kroon.
De keerzijde is voorzien van de Nederlandse leeuw als nationaal symbool.
Het exemplaar wordt geleverd in het oorspronkelijke uitreikingsdoosje van ‘s Rijks Munt Utrecht en is compleet met de bijpassende baton.
Aan de binnenzijde van het deksel bevindt zich een handgeschreven vermelding van de naam ‘Jan de Vast’.
